FDA Warns on Antibiotics in Farm Animals →
I have often thought about needing to eat organically, but, for reasons of convenience, habit, and lack of time, haven’t really gotten around to it. I was reminded of the need when I ran across this article earlier this week. If the FDA is concerned about the use of antibiotics in chickens and cattle, then I sure as hell should be too!
So as a responsible new SAHM, I went to Costco...

Today marks the official beginning of my run as a Stay At Home Mom (SAHM)! Booth left us this morning at 6AM to begin the first day of his intern year. I woke up to snap his photo and then promptly crawled back in bed.
I have a little chore sheet and I want to cook him dinner to celebrate his first day. I think I’ll start with spaghetti - I don’t want to burn out, you know.
Here is Dimitri before his walk yesterday.
And here he is a few days after emerging from the womb.
They really do change so fast! When we first took him out, he slept 100% of the time, and was totally oblivious to whether he was outside or inside. Now he spends the first half of the walk awake and alert - looking around and following the light. He loves the light.
This was a big weekend for Dimitri. He turned 2 months old on Saturday! We had a little party on Saturday (technically for the World Cup, not for him), and he celebrated it by sleeping almost literally the whole day. I think he was awake for one hour total during the entire 24-hour period. But that didn’t stop me from holding a card up to his head during his few lucid moments to try to...
a blog is born
My darling little sister has started a blog! She will keep us all updated on her adventures in Liberia - she and her new husband leave for Monrovia tomorrow!
texmeg:
I’ve finally heeded the demands and started a blog. We leave tomorrow for Monrovia. I’ll keep y’all updated on how it goes.
A little baby sneeze.
Here is Dimitri in the morning, our favorite time with him. From the moment he opens his eyes and stretches big, he is full of smiles and grins. They are the hugest smiles I’ve ever seen, probably because he has no teeth. He has started talking and cooing, at first to his giraffe, and now also to us. He is still oblivious to the dogs (despite Buckley’s tongue...
We are looking for bridesmaid’s dresses for my sister-in-law’s wedding in October. It’s going to be a grand wedding that is eccentric and spectacular, just like Leslie. The rehearsal dinner is a costume party on Halloween!
It looks like our dresses will be long, in jewel colors, and va-va-voom.
Here are some contenders:

Bathtime!
Yesterday we ventured out into the Houston heat to take Dimitri to my alma mater, Rice University. I needed to buy a Rice outfit for Dimitri so I could include it in a class update announcing his birth (priorities, priorities).
We had a lovely time strolling around the Rice campus. I hadn’t ever shown Booth how beautiful it is, and I loved returning to my old stomping grounds, but...
Baby-Free Weekend/Father's Day Recap
Our Baby-Free Weekend/Father’s Day Extravaganza was hugely fun. It was really more of a Baby-Free Night because the primary goal was to get some R&R and a good night’s sleep, and that we accomplished!
On Friday my mother-in-law drove down from Austin and we took her to our newest favorite Asian restaurant, C Fu Yang. We’ve been there a handful of times, and the owner (the...
Multi-tasking
I’ve never been much of a multi-tasker. I need to concentrate all my energy on the one thing I’m doing. I can’t even relax properly if I’m trying to read and there’s music playing.
But slowly I’m turning into more of a task juggler. Having a baby who’s having a growth spurt and needs to eat every hour helps. Here I am nursing and blogging.
The...
I love the dress I wore to my sister’s wedding this weekend! It is J. Crew (of course) and seems to have photographed well and look good in person.
But there’s a back story to ordering a bridesmaid dress to wear six weeks after you have a baby.
Luckily, Megan was extremely laid back about what style and color of dress I could wear, which made it easier in most ways (but too...
My 10 must-have items as a new mom
I have several friends who are due with their first babies this summer, and I have been thinking about what items have been indispensable to me during these first 6 weeks of motherhood. When preparing for Dimitri’s birth, I had no idea what items I would need after he arrived. And even with some items that I thought I would probably need - like hoody towels (which are so cute and actually...
