Quick and easy picnic fare →
Tonight we are having a picnic, and Mark Bittman is attempting to persuade me to throw some things together from our kitchen instead of picking up dinner to go, as I originally planned. Full report on how that goes will come tomorrow.
(Postscript: The picnic was tabled. It’s still a little too hot. But we did eat dinner on a patio. That’s something!)
One of my favorite things as a parent so far is watching Dimitri interact with other babies, adults, animals (and, of course, Booth and me). The past few days we’ve had lots of people over, much to our and Dimitri’s delight.
They have played together,
tried to steal each other’s pacifiers,
tried to poke each other’s eyes out,
investigated the dogs,
And been...
Need more cowbell
Last night we took Dimitri to his first football game. Booth’s high school team was in town to play St. John’s. We hung out at the alumni tent and got to visit with Uncle JB, who came down from Dallas. It was a fun, hot night. It’s still too hot for football in Texas!
Dimitri liked the cheerleaders. And the cowbells.
We have a legendary Halloween in store for us. My sister-in-law is getting married on October 30th, and her rehearsal dinner the night before is a costume party. It is sure to be epic - check out her and Darrel’s Beetlejuice costumes from last Halloween:
This year I’m not only dressing me and Booth - there’s also a precious little cherub to account for. I’d like to...
Here is Dimitri playing with the little chest of wonders that Donna got him last week. He’s either singing along, or frustrated that he can’t get closer. I’m going with frustrated singing.
Ah, Utah
Booth and I are back from an amazing, wonderful trip to Utah. I had never been to Utah, and Booth had never been in the fall, and we both were mesmerized. It was quiet, without many tourists, and the leaves were changing colors to vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges. I fell in love.
We stayed in Park City, at the Waldorf Astoria. It was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had -...
This was me yesterday. A total grumpy pants about leaving for this vacation! I have been stressing about milk production and pumping and storing milk and packing and leaving this cute face for 5 days. But my bad mood started changing when I was folding clothes and packing last night with a glass of wine while watching the season finale of Bachelor Pad. So thanks, Chris Harrison.

We had a great time at Alexandra’s birthday party. Dimitri loved seeing all the other babies and smiling at all the adult women (he is turning into somewhat of a flirt). It was a monkey theme, and Dimitri got a cute stuffed monkey and his some bubbles as party favors.
Here is Daddy blowing bubbles with Dimitri after we got home from the party.
Dimitri, mommy, and his new stuffed...
This week we made a startling discovery. We’re living with a dolphin. At first it was a happy dolphin, now it has graduated to an angry dolphin. Earlier today it sounded like a rabid cat, and tonight it was a wounded teradactyl.
Our child is a virtual zoo and even does impressions of extinct, prehistoric animals.
Our house may never be quiet again.
But I LOVE it.
Daily dose of Dimitri: Playing with momma’s old rattle
This weekend we took an early Labor Day trip to Dallas. It was full of fun and random nostalgia. We visited my parents at each of their respective pharmacies so Dimitri could meet everyone. My dad has worked at the same pharmacy for about as long as I’ve been alive, and visiting there always brings back great memories (I...
