On returning to work.
Today was a bittersweet day. It marked my last day to stay home full time with Dimitri.
A few weeks ago, I got offered a job at a great law firm here in Salt Lake City. It is much smaller than my old firm — 50 lawyers, as opposed to 800+. It’s more of a regional firm than an international firm, and it has a long history of doing good things for the state. Based on my interviews,...

Looking for the Living Room
We were having a lazy Sunday morning drinking coffee and reading the paper when Booth mentioned that we hadn’t gone hiking together in awhile. He was right, so we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and try a trail near our house that has city views.
We wanted to find a place on the trail called the Living Room. It promises “the best room in the house for an accessible...
Pumpkins and hydrangeas
This weekend we hosted a small dinner for a few sweet friends.
We had hydrangeas — one of my very favorite flowers, and a flower I’ll always hold dear because I carried it in my bridal bouquet. When I saw the hydrangeas on sale at the market on Saturday morning, my heart went thump and I immediately scooped them up. Why don’t more places sell hydrangeas, I wondered. ...

Sunny days
We are enjoying a string of beautiful days here in SLC. The mornings are crisp and cool, but by 11am it is certifiably sunny and warm, and it stays warm throughout the afternoon. Then, around 5:30 in the evening, it starts to become cool again. If you sit outside at night, you need a blanket or a sweater to stay warm.
Dimitri is obsessed with being outside, so we spend a chunk of the day in...
A boy and his balloon: A love story
In sixteen years or so, you may see Dimitri doing this:
To Market
This weekend we had the best Saturday morning. Earlier in the week I finally got some new running shoes, and I was eager to try them out. (Alas, it has been officially confirmed that I do wear a size 12 running shoe now, and my foot is still too narrow. I thought that was bad enough, but the man helping me informed me that his wife’s feet grew with EACH of her 3 pregnancies. This means I...
Light my fire
Earlier this week Dimitri and I took our first trip to the fire station. A playgroup we recently joined organized the outing — it was a chance for the kids to meet the local firefighters, see the firetrucks up close, watch the firefighters put on their gear, and run around the fire station like maniacs. Dimitri seemed to be the biggest maniac of all; I’m hoping it’s just his...
The saint
D,
I wanted to write something down before I forget.
Some moments with you lately can be, well, trying. You are becoming more independent and opinionated. You know what you want, and it often involves movement. You detest being restrained. When you’re angry about something, your frustration is evident. You throw what you’re holding or you reach out and pinch me. I tell you I...
Someone was having A LOT of fun doing this “up down” move tonight!
First concert
This weekend we packed a picnic dinner and went to Red Butte garden for an outdoor concert, Alison Krauss. We laid out a picnic blanket and enjoyed the beautiful mountain views. There was a slight breeze, and as the sun went down and the music started, it was a beautiful moment indeed.
This is the last batch of zoo pictures, I promise!
Best seat in the house
My heart just about exploded watching them walk across the bridge toward me…so cute!
The giraffes, my personal favorite.
D seemed to like them too.
Happy baby at the end of the day!
More Hogle Zoo
More photos from the zoo!
The pretty zoo entrance
This way, guys!
Hmm, what’s in there??
Mommy, D, and a big elephant’s head
Look at those turkeys!
Watching the elephant show, featuring a cute baby elephant
Taking a break to eat some Dipping Dots…YUM
Red Butte
There is a beautiful garden and botanical center in Utah called Red Butte. They have grounds to stroll around on, plus they offer gardening classes and host events like a summer concert series. Alas, the summer concert series is mostly over, and we didn’t get to take advantage of it this year. We hadn’t found a babysitter yet and didn’t want to keep D out too late. But there...
